The Western Chokecherry is a beautiful flowering shrub/small tree shrub is in the same family as the Mayday. It has showy white blooms (racemes) that appear mid-spring and tart, deep purple berries that can be used to make jams, syrups, and port wine.
Because of its suckering nature, it can form dense thickets. Many wildlife, including birds and game animals, eat the berries. This round bush is very hardy and tolerates most soil structures, but will not tolerate standing water. Highly tolerant of urban pollution. Great for erosion control on steep banks.
Seedling size is approximately 12” tall, 1 year old.
