This beautiful flowering shrub/small tree shrub is in the same family as the Mayday. It has showy white blooms ( racemes) that appear mid spring and tart deep purple berries that can be used for making jams, syrups and port wines.
Due to its suckering nature, dense thickets can form. Many wildlife, including birds and game animals, eat the berries. This round bush is very hardy and tolerates most soil structures, but will not tolerate standing water. Highly tolerant of urban pollution. Great for erosion control on steep banks.
