The Lodgepole Pine is a tall, slender, extremely hardy pine known for its rapid growth compared to other evergreens. It’s highly adaptable and can grow in many environments, from water-logged bogs to dry, sandy soils. Its straight, narrow trunk earned it its name, as Indigenous peoples traditionally used it for tipi and lodge poles.
As Alberta’s provincial tree, it’s right at home on the Prairies, giving year-round shelter and a classic evergreen look. Plant in full sun for best growth, and space trees 10 feet apart for shelterbelt plantings.
Seedling size is approximately 6-8” tall, 1 year old.
